In our biggest test ever, eight best-selling dual-cab utes face off against each other in a war played out in the mud and dust of builder yards, family driveways and four-wheel-drive parks.
The number one selling Toyota HiLux attempts to defend itself from the Australian-developed Ford Ranger and Mazda BT-50, the brand new Volkswagen Amarok, the great value Isuzu D-Max and traditional rivals the Nissan Navara, Holden Colorado, Mitsubishi Triton.
We tested the dual role of dual cabs, comparing interior space, comfort and driveability, in addition to measuring performance, economy, payload capability and tray length and practicality.
A quartet of premium mediums do battle to coincide with the arrival of the third-generation Lexus IS ?" a car that the company claims is a better driver??s car than the BMW 3 Series.
We test that claim, and throw in two other accomplished German rivals just to turn up the heat, the Audi A4 and Mercedes-Benz C-Class.
Photographed at dawn in the Sydney CBD, we then moved through the suburbs testing the urban driveability, comfort and luxury of the $60,000 petrol automatic sedans, before turning to challenging country roads.
Turning up the wick on those twisty roads, we test a trio of sub-$150,000 sports cars including the Porsche Cayman, Audi TT RS and Lotus Exige S.
Which premium coupe best balances performance with razor-sharp dynamics, soothing ride, superb steering, wonderful build quality and superb styling?
We give out a five-star verdict on only one car (hint: it isn??t the Audi and Lotus).
We then headed overseas to test the Audi A3 sedan, Mazda 3, Merecedes-Benz S-Class and Range Rover Sport, all of which will be arriving locally soon.
Back home, we also drive the Bentley GTC, HSV Maloo, Mini JCW GP, Peugeot 5008 and Volvo S60 Polestar.
In our regulars section, we look at how cars automatically park themselves, then reveal the upcoming launches, both overseas and locally, that the CarAdvice crew will be attending in August and September.
