2012 BMW 7 series will be produced in two trim levels- the little bigger 760 Li and 750 Li, and the regular 7501. Under the hood, 750i integrates a BMW 360 hp 4.8 liter V8 engine, whereas the 760Li and 750 Li are developed with a 6.0 liter V12 engine for 438 hp. The vehicle is being developed using aluminum in their suspension to assist the vehicle in bitterly responding to road faults and bumps. It is designed with a power assist feature, which helps the driver to handle the steering precisely. The vehicle will be developed with a steering system, which passes power to the rear wheels.

BMW 4 Series

The BMW 3 Series Coupe is no more. It’s set to be replaced by the 4 Series Coupe, and this concept shows how it’ll look. The production version of the 4 Series Coupe Concept is expected in showrooms by the end of 2013, with a 4 Series Convertible and more practical four-door Gran Coupe following.

From the look of the car in these pictures, BMW is pulling the same trick it pulled with the concept version of the 6 Series Gran Coupe – so apart from a few minor details, this Coupe is ready for the road.

“In the past the resemblance and the DNA between the 3 Series sedan and coupe was obvious, this time we want to take a much larger step,” Ian Robertson, BMW's sales and marketing director, told us. “It’s more than a 3 Series sedan, it has more presence and it’s more dynamic. It’s time to change to the 4 Series.”

Setting the 4 Series apart from the more sensible 3 Series saloon is a sportier profile featuring a low-slung rear end. The car looks far more dynamic than the current 3 Series Coupe, with a track that’s 45mm wider at the front and 80mm at the rear. The roofline is 16mm lower, too.

The L-shaped kink in the rear window is a theme repeated in details all around the new car, such as the air vents behind the front wheels (BMW calls them Air Breathers), the door handles and the LED signature in the lights.

Apparently, the styling updates aren’t just for show. A gaping lower front bumper with Air Curtains at its edges works with the Air Breathers to improve air flow round the wheels and, in turn, enhance aerodynamics.

BMW has also closed off the new satin silver grille to help the 4 Series cut through the air more easily. At the rear, the shape of the lower front grille is mirrored in the bumper, but early spy shots thought to show the production 4 Series reveal this feature could be ditched.

Inside, the newcomer has the same dash layout as the 3 Series saloon, but what really stands out is how the materials are used. The seats are covered in hand-braided leather trim, which even extends to the cup-holders in the centre console and door panels.

Matt-effect Natural Chestnut wood trim helps to provide the interior with more of a unique, premium feel than the 3 Series. While some of the more opulent touches won’t make it through to production, we can be sure that the 2+2 seating arrangement will feature on the final showroom 4 Series.

BMW hasn’t confirmed any details on the engine line-up, but as the new car is the more performance-orientated brother of the 3 Series, only the most powerful engines from the saloon’s line-up are likely. So expect the range to kick off with a 181bhp 420i model, while the 242bhp 430i and 302bhp 435i will complete the 4 Series petrol line-up.

Diesel options will comprise the 181bhp 420d, the 254bhp 430d and a new 309bhp 435d. As with the 3 Series, buyers will get a choice of six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic boxes.

A four-wheel-drive version of the 420i will also be offered, and at the top of the range will be an M4 Coupe and Convertible, to sit alongside the soon-to-be-launched M3 saloon. All three cars will use the same engine, which is reported to be a 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder with around 450bhp.

Every engine in the 4 Series range – including that in the M4 – will focus on increasing efficiency. As the new car is expected to be lighter than the 3 Series, and has a more aerodynamic shape, it could improve on that model’s economy. This means we can expect the 420d to be capable of well over 60mpg, with CO2 emissions under 120g/km.

The 4 Series Coupe will be revealed in production form late next year, and will go head-to-head with the Audi A5 in showrooms. It’ll be priced competitively with the A5, which means it’ll also be more expensive than the 3 Series, which starts from £24,880.

A price tag closer to £28,000 is likely for the 4 Series, and for that buyers will get more equipment than those who go for the 3 Series. There will be a choice of SE, Sport and top-of-the-range M Sport models.

The 4 Series Convertible will appear in showrooms shortly after the Coupe, early in 2014, and the 4 Series Gran Coupe won’t be far behind. The latter will be marked out from the Coupe by an extra set of doors, and a stretched wheelbase to free up more space in the back seats.

BMW GROUP AND TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION DEEPEN COLLABORATION BY SIGNING BINDING AGREEMENTS

BMW Group and Toyota Motor Corporation sign contract

MUNICH : January 24, 2012 - BMW Group and Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) are pursuing their successful strategic long-term cooperation in the field of sustainable mobility today by signing binding agreements aimed at long-term collaboration between the two companies for the joint development of a fuel cell system, joint development of architecture and components for a sports vehicle, and joint research and development of lightweight technologies. These agreements follow a memorandum of understanding signed in June 2012.

Furthermore, BMW Group and TMC also today signed a binding agreement to commence collaborative research on lithium-air batteries, a post-lithium-battery solution. This agreement marks the second phase of collaborative research into next-generation lithium-ion battery cells that commenced in March 2012.

The main points of the agreements are:

1. Fuel cell system

- The companies are convinced that fuel cell technology is one of the solutions necessary to achieve zero emissions. BMW Group and TMC are to share their technologies and to jointly develop a fundamental fuel-cell vehicle system, including not only a fuel cell stack and system, but also a hydrogen tank, motor and battery, aiming for completion in 2020.
- The companies are to collaborate in jointly developing codes and standards for the hydrogen infrastructure which are necessary for the popularization of fuel cell vehicles.

2. Sports vehicle

- The companies agreed to set-up a feasibility study to define a joint platform concept for a mid-size sports vehicle that is to be completed by the end of 2013. The two companies aim to combine each other’s technology and knowledge at a high level to maximise customer satisfaction. Both companies are to share the vision to further collaborate in the field of sports vehicle development.

3. Lightweight technology

The companies are to jointly develop lightweight technologies for vehicle bodies using cutting-edge materials such as reinforced composites, with an eye to utilize these technologies in cooperation on the joint development of a sports-vehicle platform as well as other BMW and TMC vehicles.

4. Post-lithium-battery technology

The companies are to begin joint research with a goal to develop a lithium-air battery with energy density greatly exceeding that of current lithium-ion batteries.

Norbert Reithofer, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG said: “TMC and the BMW Group share the same strategic vision of future sustainable mobility. In light of the technological changes ahead, the entire automotive industry faces tremendous challenges, which we also regard as an opportunity. This collaboration is an important building block in keeping both companies on a successful course in the future.”

Akio Toyoda, President of TMC said: “It is just over a year since we signed our collaborative MoU, and with each day as our relationship strengthens, we feel acutely that we are making steadfast progress. Now, we are entering the phase that promises the fruit. While placing importance on what we learn from the joint development, we will work hard together in reaching our common goal of making ever-better cars.”

BMW Group and TMC first agreed to form a medium-to-long-term collaborative relationship for developing next-generation environment-friendly vehicles and technologies in December 2011, at which time the two companies also signed a contract under which BMW Group is to supply highly efficient diesel engines to Toyota Motor Europe. BMW Group and TMC ― as long-term strategic partners ― have since continued their joint efforts to realize sustainable mobility for the future.

G-POWER RELEASED NEW AERODYNAMIC KIT FOR M3

G-POWER aerodynamic program RS

Sometimes less is even more. For example in regards of a car’s weight. Because less weight improves the performance of the BMW M3 and so provides more driving pleasure. With the G-POWER aerodynamic program “RS”, which is completely fabricated from Carbon fibre, one can make the BMW M3 lighter and therefore faster. At the same time the G-POWER “RS” Carbon parts increases the aerodynamic downforce and thus provides for even faster cornering speeds.

G-POWER’s roots have their origin in motorsports. Already in the early eighties G-POWER tuned BMW 02 models were competing for top position in their category. Today G-POWER is still active in motorsports and competing in series like the Spezial-Tourenwagen-Trophy (STT) and the DMV Touring Car Championship (DMV TCC).

The G-POWER aerodynamic program „RS“ has been designed based on the knowledge gained from G-POWER’s motorsports activities. The product launch has been preceded by extensive CAD engineering and intensive test driving on road and track.

In the result G-POWER has created an aerodynamic package for the BMW M3 that contains a front spoiler, bonnet, boot lid and a rear wing. The G-POWER aerodynamic program „RS“ is manufactured from supremely light and highly strong Carbon fibre in a gas-proof autoclave. This method of manufacturing meets the OEM standards of the automobile industry and ensures perfect fitting just like a flawless surface structure. In doing so it has been possible to achieve a weight reduction of approx. 2,6 kg for the bonnet and approx. 8,1 kg for the boot lid.

The G-POWER aerodynamic program "RS", made completely of Carbon fibre, not only reduces the vehicle weight, but also increases the aerodynamic downforce. To be specific, the Carbon front spoiler generates more downforce on the front axle, while the Carbon fibre boot lid incl. tear-off edge increases the downforce on the rear axle. Additional downforce for the rear axle can be generated by a 3-piece and 4-times adjustable Carbon rear wing that can be altered for racing or street purpose. Optionally the G-POWER Carbon boot lit can be fitted with the factory rear wing from the BMW M3 GTS.

The G-POWER aerodynamic program “RS” is rounded off with a special bonnet, which of course cannot increase the downforce, but still is not without function. The starting point for the development of the G-POWER VENTURI bonnet was the technical necessity to remove heat from the engine compartment of the uprated engines as quickly as possible. Otherwise a loss of performance can happen, since the ECU (electronic control unite) makes use of diagrams with reduced degrees of ignition when a fixed temperature limit is reached, in order to safeguard the engine. The "DYNAMIC VENTING" Technology of the G-POWER VENTURI hood vents the engine compartment dynamically, allowing the otherwise untapped performance potential to be achieved with no additional thermal stress. Performance enhancement cannot be supported more efficiently.

And in terms of output enhancement G-POWER can offer a broad variety of supercharger systems for the BMW M3. Next to the newly introduced TU supercharger systems with the performance levels SK I “Sporty Drive” TU with 520 hp, SK II “Sporty Drive” TU with 580 hp and the SK II CS “Sporty Drive” TU version with 610 hp, the 720 hp strong G-POWER SK III “Sporty Drive” supercharger system marks the output maximum. This configuration level of the G-POWER supercharger system features an ASA T1-723 supercharger and a displacement enhancement from 4.0l to 4.6l and thus achieves a massive output enhancement of 300 hp based on the standard output of the BMW M3 of already 420 hp.

BMW 3 Series review

The latest BMW 3 Series has a lot to live up to, as its predecessor has ruled the competitive compact executive sector since making its debut in 2005. However, the old car wasn’t without its faults, and recent improvements to the Audi A4 and Mercedes C-Class weakened the BMW’s grip on the class crown. As a result, the latest 3 Series couldn’t have come soon enough. Bigger, more refined and with a range of efficient new engines, the all-new model once again propels the 3 Series saloon to the top.

Styling
4

Viewed in profile, the BMW 3 Series is virtually indistinguishable from the car it replaces. There’s the same low nose, relatively upright windscreen and trademark kink in the C-pillars. But move to the front and you’ll find distinctive headlamps featuring LED running lights, while at the back the BMW looks very similar to the firm’s larger 5 Series model. At present there are six trim levels to choose from – ES, SE, M Sport, Luxury, Modern and Sport. The latter is marked out by racy black trim that outlines the windows and lower grille. All models get alloy wheels as standard. Inside, the slickly styled, clearly laid-out dashboard takes its cues from the latest 5 Series. All the materials have a classy look and feel, and build quality is first-rate. Most models get a choice of either wood or metal-effect trim inserts, apart from the Sport, which gets a garish red finish.
Driving 5

The outgoing 3 Series set the class standard for driving dynamics, so it’s no surprise to find engineers have worked hard to make the latest car equally as engaging. As you’d expect, the steering is direct and well weighted, there’s plenty of grip and the rear-wheel-drive chassis feels beautifully balanced. What’s more, noise levels are lower than before, easily matching the refined Audi A4. All models get Drive Performance Control, which allows you to select from Comfort, Sport and Sport+ modes – each setting lets you fine tune the steering, throttle and ESP settings to suit road conditions. Optional Adaptive Drive damping and Sport steering deliver an even sharper drive, while the comfort setting serves up a softer ride. A familiar line-up of four and six-cylinder engines are available, with the flagship 335i managing 0-60mph in just 5.5 seconds while returning 35.8mpg. However, the star of the show is the 181bhp 2.0-litre diesel in the 320d, which combines 60mpg+ with a 0-60mph sprint of just 7.5 seconds. A six-speed manual is standard on all versions, with a slick eight-speed auto available as an option. Drivers wanting extra all-weather security can opt for the 320i xDrive, which features the firm’s advanced, electronically controlled permanent four-wheel-drive system.
Reliability
4.5

The 3 Series gained a full five-stars in the Euro NCAP crash tests, shooting it straight to the top of its class. All versions benefit from six airbags, electronic stability control and tyre pressure monitoring. Also included is BMW Assist, that automatically calls the emergency services if the car is involved in a serious accident. If you’ve got deep pockets, then there’s the option to add blind spot monitoring and lane keep assist. Every new 3 Series feels solidly engineered, so it should deliver trouble-free motoring.
Practicality 4.2

The previous-generation 3 Series suffered from a cramped cabin, and the new car is bigger in almost every area. Inside, it now rivals the Audi A4 for space, with occupants in the back getting decent head and legroom. There’s also plenty of storage, thanks to deep door pockets, a large glovebox and plenty of cupholders. Opening the tailgate reveals a well shaped, 480-litre load bay, which is exactly the same size as the Audi A4's. Unfortunately, you’ll have pay around £400 extra if you want the flexibility of split/fold rear seats.
Running Costs 4.5

The combination of BMW’s EfficientDynamics technology and reduction in weight has helped make the 3 Series one of the most fuel-efficient compact executive models money can buy. Leading the way is the 320d EfficientDynamics, which emits just 109g/km of CO2 and promises an impressive 68.9mpg display at the pumps. Yet even the scorching 242bhp twin-turbo 328i petrol keeps emissions down to 149g/km and will manage nearly 45mpg. As with all BMW models you can take advantage of great value pre-paid servicing packs, which help to keep the cost of mechanical maintenance to a minimum. However, if you want to keep your bank manager happy, then we’d recommend steering clear of the expensive options list.
