Mitsubishi Concept CA-MiEV – The Suburban EV

TOKYO : February 13, 2013 - Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) will give the MITSUBISHI Concept GR-HEV^*1 and MITSUBISHI Concept CA-MiEV^*2 concept models their global debut at the 83rd Geneva International Motor Show which runs from March 5 through March 17 (opening to the general public on March 7). The two show models highlight MMC's next-generation advanced technologies.

Mitsubishi Concept GR-HEV – The Sport Utility Hybrid Truck

The MITSUBISHI Concept GR-HEV is a concept for a sport utility truck (SUT) which delivers high environmental and driving performance using a FR^*3 diesel-hybrid system (under development) in a pickup truck, one of the most popular vehicle categories in emerging economies. Combining a high fuel-efficiency clean diesel engine with a high-output motor and battery, the hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) system achieves on-road CO2 emission levels of below 149 g/km to give it environmental performance among the best in its class. The concept also uses a next-generation 4WD system which incorporates the Super Select 4WD honed in the Pajero series and Super All Wheel Control (S-AWC) vehicle dynamics integrated control systems to deliver high stability traction and driving performance under all road conditions.

The MITSUBISHI Concept CA-MiEV gives an indication of the shape MMC, which launched the i-MiEV - the world's first mass produced electric vehicle - in 2009, believes EVs will take in the near future. This concept model incorporates next-generation EV technologies under development at the company, such as high-energy density batteries and high-efficiency EV systems (motor, inverter, regenerative braking and wireless charging system). Together with a lightweight and aerodynamic body it achieves a cruising range of 300 km.

With its advanced technologies embodied in the two concept models making their world debut at the Geneva Motor Show, MMC will continues to pursue further progress both in emerging markets and in environmental technologies, two major keys to the growth of the company's business.

For the first time, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) has decided to select the most demanding European market as global launch pad for an all-new vehicle. Next March, the Geneva Motor Show will see the world premiere of a strategic and innovative premium vehicle, to be retailed sequentially during 2012 – a car of substance that will reflect a gradual transformation in Mitsubishi’s design language.

 Next generation

This unveiling will confirm the start of an all-new generation of global products for Mitsubishi Motors, consistent with the ambitions set in MMC’s “Jump 2013” business plan for a greener and more global Mitsubishi. Fittingly, this complete family of cars / crossovers / SUVs will see a gradual transition to a re-focused design language.

A tradition of engineering

Mitsubishi Motors (Thailand) Signs Agreement on Joint Testing of Electric Vehicles with PTT Public Company Limited

TOKYO : September 20, 2011 - Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) announced that Mitsubishi Motors Thailand Co., Ltd. (MMTh), MMC's subsidiary in Thailand has agreed to start joint testing of the i-MiEV new-generation electric vehicle (EV) with PTT Public Company Limited (PTT) the largest energy company in Thailand.


Following the agreement between the government of Thailand and MMC for a joint study of fleet EV testing that was concluded on December 2010, MMTh has started specific testing with two power companies; Metropolitan Electricity Authority and PEA ENCOM. With this new agreement with PTT, MMC will intensify its efforts towards popularization of EVs in Thailand, such as researching its' consumer acceptability, marketability, as well as charging infrastructure.

PTT is a natural gas and petroleum company working towards a stable supply of energy for Thailand under the Thai government's national energy security policy. PTT plans to install a quick charger at the PTT Research and Technology Institute by the end of this year, so both PTT and MMTh will actively cooperate in the research and the development of EV charging infrastructure.

After its launch in Japan, the i-MiEV has been sequentially rolled out internationally to Hong Kong, Australia, Europe, and other markets, and is planned for rollout in the United States and Canada this fall. In addition, MMC is in cooperation with numerous governments in their EV popularization initiatives, including the Principality of Monaco, Iceland, Denmark, and Singapore.

Nissan and Mitsubishi Motors sign contract for establishment of joint venture for minicar business

YOKOHAMA/TOKYO : May 20, 2011 - Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. and Mitsubishi Motors Corporation today announced that the two companies signed a contract for the establishment of a joint venture related to their minicar business in the Japanese market. The establishment of the joint venture was part of an agreement signed in December 2010 to expand the scope of cooperation between the two companies. The two companies will strengthen their competitiveness in the minicar business through this joint venture.
