A range of 2012-built Mercedes-Benz M-Class SUVs have been recalled in Australia due to an ill-fitting non-standard floor mat, following a US recall for an identical issue announced in August.
According to the official recall notice published on the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) website, 2159 Mercedes-Benz M-Class vehicles built between March and August may be affected, possibly resulting in the floor mat interfering with the accelerator pedal affecting the ability of the driver to slow the vehicle leading to a risk of unexpected high vehicle speeds and difficulty slowing or stopping the vehicle.
But as Mercedes-Benz Australia??s Jerry Stamoulis told CarAdvice, the 2159 figure is based on the number of all-season mats distributed to dealers and is not necessarily representative of the actual number of vehicles fitted with the defective mats.
??The recall is for the accessory not the vehicles,? Stamoulis said.
Owners who purchased the mats will be contacted to arrange a replacement of the faulty item for a new set of correctly fitting mats, with the process to take only minutes to complete.
As Stamoulis said in August and again confirmed today, there have been no reports of any incidents relating to the mats in Australia.
Locally the Mercedes M-Class ranges in price from $81,400 to $177,900.
