MTM celebrates the season kick-off in Geneva with two PSUVs

2012 MTM Q3

Just prior to the spectacular premiere of the automobile industry’s current annual presentation season at the International Motor Show in Geneva, the statistics registered a trend that every automobile manufacturer should take note of: the notchback is out and the Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) is taking over.

MTM has spearheaded this movement with a proven model in this category: more power for sportier performance! Cars from the MTM high-tech studio in Wettstetten, Germany, that are headed for the finish line, are power-packed and have what it takes to take the lead. So it makes sense that MTM is presenting two Power SUVs (PSUVs): The MTM T 500 2.5 TFSI 4motion, which an unsuspecting observer might mistake at first glance for a VW T5. But don’t be fooled. It wouldn’t be an MTM creation if it didn’t have power to spare; and besides, the motor vehicle registration certificate identifies MTM as the responsible automobile manufacturer.

Also oozing pure power is the MTM Q3 2.0 TFSI Quattro, which is presented in bold black, red and gold, just like the power-charged MTM "Bulli". An obvious reference to the European Football Championship by the MTM team: "If you want to play in the top league, you better drive in the top league”, MTM boss Roland Mayer adds with a smile when talking about the patriotically-coloured creation of his associates.
Meanwhile, under the bonnet everything is just what you would expect from MTM: high-tech for high performance and the satisfaction of knowing that “more is more”.

2012 MTM T500

Which is also the maxim for the MTM T 500 2.5 TFSI 4motion. It is driven by an in-line five-cylinder, an indestructible performer with a character that may no longer play a leading role in the serial production planning at Volkswagen, but which has nevertheless succeeded in building a huge fan community. And they will prick up their ears when the T 500 roars off into the distance with 472 HP at 6,900 rpm. At 4,100 rpm, the unit racks up a torque of 625 Nm, and if the transmission hadn’t also been modified for such force with MTM know-how, the enormous bang would hardly allow it to make it to the asphalt. Secured to such an extent, the fierce propulsion first ends at 280 km/h. Even the briskest T5 with serial power stays within a civil speed range, at about 200 km/h. The control exercised against so much power is guaranteed by large disc brakes, firmly gripped by two 6-piston fixed callipers at the front axle. Mounted on the 9x20 inch MTM Bimoto rims, are 275/35 ZR 20 Michelin SuperSport. Certainly not for the faint-hearted, but in the face of a muscleman, the category “comfort” seems to hold what it promises – with a KW Street Comfort coilover suspension, with a sensible as well as helpful touch from MTM. All in all, the MTM T500 ensemble totals just under 160,000 Euro.

Just like the "Bulli", the MTM Q3 2.0 TFSI also strikes a different note than the standard model. No wonder; instead of 170 HP, this PSUV charges in with 310 HP. The MTM version takes a good two seconds less, namely 6.1 seconds, to sprint to 100 km/h. And while the standard Q3 reaches its peak at 212 km/h, the MTM Q3 has enough steam to get it to just under 250 km/h. An Audi Q3 2.0 TFSI with S-Line sport package costs almost 37,000 Euro. After MTM has done its magic, the PSUV will cost just under 59,000 Euro. The added value is generated by proven additions like a specially adapted exhaust system with turbo-kit and rear diffuser, as equally visible as the characteristic set of wheels from MTM Bimoto 20", soled with tyres size 255/35 ZR 20 and moderately lowered.

Primed like this, both MTM creations are perfectly suited for a trip to the European Football Championship. The ideal PSUV for fans and groupies. For those fans who would rather watch the tournament of Europe’s best kickers at home on the telly, skip the black-red-gold foil: with savings of 2,350 Euro for the T500 and 1,850 Euro for the MTM Q3. You’ll still be ahead of the game with both, multi-coloured or plain – even if you head west.

4.2 TDI V8 - more muscle from MTM

MTM A8 4.2 V8 TDI

Diesel engines, formerly the preferred engines for large and small vehicles, have long since been at home under the bonnet of luxury limousines and trendy SUVs. Powered by voluminous self-ignition engines, these cars glide smoothly along the spacious boulevards and park in front of opera houses, art galleries and boutiques. Often, the owner is sitting in the back, with a chauffeur at the wheel. And he has every right to be happy. As a rule, he has at his disposal torque that produces irresistible power delivery even at an engine speed significantly lower than 2,000 rpm, thus confirming the theory that you can get “a lot of power out of a low engine speed”

MTM Q7 Crossliner 4.2 V8 TDI

And then there is MTM, the maker of exclusively equipped cars – mostly Audis and Volkswagen. Managed by Roland Mayer, owner of the company, MTM engineers have got to work on the 4.2 litre TDI that is deployed in the A8, as well as in the Q7 and Volkswagen Touareg. By no means weak with 350 HP, but with enough potential for much more power at a low engine speed as well at the upper end of the rev range.

Tried and tested methods are used to increase power: standard engine management is out, MTM systems are in. When a V-Cantronic is deployed in the A8, it is true that performance remains the same at 350 HP, but the high speed of the saloon is no longer abruptly suppressed at 250 kph. The limit doesn’t kick in until 282 kph. This version only comes with the A8. It takes a good two hours of skilled workmanship and is available at less than € 1,400.

Those who want to compete in the Champions League with their V8 TDI can get themselves into the top division of the engine speed league for just under € 1,800. As well as 410 HP, the MTM high-tech laboratory gives you 930 Nm  of torque - for a hold that could rip up paving stones.

No less powerful, but around €100 cheaper, is the MTM version that uses an M-Cantronic. Those who are looking for more than the top class power output of 930 Nm, however, are catered for by MTM with a combination of the M-Cantronic and V-Cantronic, which slow down the engine speed limitation at 250 kph. This additional "powerhouse doping" costs less than €2,700 and is only available for the A8.

For all versions, a beauty and safety concept in line with the company style is available: wheel rims, brakes, exhaust systems and chassis components which coupled together with the A8, Q7 or the Touareg make for an imposing ensemble. Then you are ahead of the field on the road but not the first in the queue at the fuel station.

MTM A7 3,0 TDI Quattro - a little bit more power?

2011 MTM A7 3.0 TDi Quattro

Diesel engines prefer to show their strong sides in the part-load operational range: here they have a good traction and consume a little. This is also true for the A7 TDI Quattro which offers 245 hp and a tight torque of 500 Nm. For the typical MTM customer it can even be more in this 3 litre compression-ignition engine. Roland Mayer, head of MTM and the driving force behind this engineering laboratory outside the gates of Ingolstadt, learned about the original virtues of Audi six-cylinder cars, cultivated them partially and prepared two more variations, which leave nothing to be desired:

285 hp and 580Nm or 300 hp and 600Nm. This operation proceeds minimal inversive in both cases and is settled after 90 minutes. For the moderate version MTM focuses on the approved M-Cantronic. In business class MTM modifies the control unit. This heads the shapely A7 to a highspeed of 263 km/h. Both systems are available for 1.392 Euro incl. fitting.

Around 2.600 Euro – inclusive fitting – the perfectly adjusted exhaust system with four 89mm tail pipes costs. This is a visible sign that a MTM diesel is expected rather on the fast lane than on the slow lane.

This is not enough. More performance often requests the wish of a better handling. A suspension system for the A7 TDI Quattro is already tested and will soon be available for active operation. The MTM 20 inch rims in the Bimoto design in combination with 20mm or 30mm wheel spacers are also a part of the MTM product range. ‘The package is not yet calculated but I think that the suspension system will be available at a price of 699,- Euro’ says Roland Mayer. The earliest delivery date will be end of August 2011.
